What is hook and loop?
Hook and loop is a two component fastener popularized by the VELCRO® Brand. The hook is the rough, scratchy side and the loop is the soft, fuzzy side.
What size are the rolls?
Most of the rolls we sell are 25 yards long. Some products are sold on 50 yard rolls, like some low profile hook products and 3/8" and 1/2" sew on. Some products are sold on 100 yard rolls, like the polypropylene webbing. And some products are sold by the yard, like the wide loop. You can find the roll size on the product page above the attributes or above the pricing.
What are the best techniques for sewing VELCRO® to ensure durability?

To ensure durability:

  • Use a strong polyester or nylon thread
  • Stitch around the edges and across the centre of the VELCRO® strip
  • Opt for a zigzag or box stitch pattern for added hold
  • Reinforce stress points with backstitching
How do I sew VELCRO® onto fabric securely?

Start by pinning or tacking the VELCRO® in place. Use a heavy-duty needle and thread, especially on thick materials. Stitch around all edges of the strip, using tight, even stitches to prevent peeling. Avoid sewing through the hook side if possible, as it can dull needles.

What are the best ways for sewing VELCRO®?

Best practices include:

  • Use a sewing machine with a heavy-duty needle
  • Stitch slowly through thick layers
  • Try pre-washing the fabric to avoid shrinkage later
  • Use VELCRO® Brand sew-on tape, not adhesive-backed versions for sewing
Can I sew VELCRO® by hand, or do I need a sewing machine?

Yes, you can sew VELCRO® by hand, though it’s more time-consuming. Use a strong needle and waxed thread. Backstitch around the edges for strength. For large or high-stress projects, a sewing machine is recommended for better hold and speed.

What fabric works best with VELCRO®?

VELCRO® works best with:

  • Canvas
  • Denim
  • Nylon
  • Polyester
  • Felt or fleece

Avoid delicate fabrics like silk, which may tear or stretch when pulling the fastener apart.
