Without a grommet, a grommet hole (or a die cut hole) could potentially cause fraying or after repeated use, could end up ripping the material, causing the strap to fail. The added metal grommets provide protection to that material, allowing the strap to function as intended while also serving as a hole. This grommet hole can be used to secure the strap to a wall or a bracket with a metal fastener like a screw. That way, the strap stays in place and doesn't get lost when switching out piping or cabling. Securing the strap to the wall also helps support the piping or cabling in place.
